On April 2, CCPIT released the architectural design for the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to Feng Yaoxiang, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the China Pavilion at the Dubai Expo and Director of the Trade and Investment Promotion Department of CCPIT, the Chinese government confirmed its participation in the Dubai Expo in January 2017. In May 2018, the Chinese side signed a formal participation contract with the Arab side. The Chinese side appointed Zhang Shenfeng, Vice President of CCPIT, as the Government General Representative of the China Pavilion at the Dubai Expo. CCPIT, as the competent unit in charge of China's participation in international exhibition bureaus and expositions, and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly lead the organizing committee of the China Pavilion, jointly with the Ministry of Publicity, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce, to be responsible for the organization, coordination, preparation and management of China's participation.

The Organizing Committee of the China Pavilion has set up an expert committee, and has hired Mr. He Jingtang, Chief Designer of the China Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Mr. Sha Xiaolan, Vice President of the China Institute of Stage and Design and Chief Lighting Designer of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 29th Olympic Games, as General Consultant and General Artistic Consultant of the China Pavilion design respectively.

Feng Yaoxiang said, this year's Expo, China Pavilion will be themed "Building a Community of Human Destiny - Innovation and Opportunity", with a large self-constructed pavilion of 4636 square meters, becoming one of the largest countries in the Expo in Dubai.

The architecture of the China Pavilion is named "Light of China", which means hope and light. The architecture of the China Pavilion follows the design principles of "East meets West, China is the main focus, and the ancient meets the modern", combining Chinese elements with modern technology, and demonstrating the confidence of Chinese culture and the style of a great nation. The appearance of the China Pavilion is based on traditional Chinese lanterns, combined with modern architectural forms, with an imposing and dignified appearance. The lanterns represent light, reunion, good fortune and happiness, symbolizing that countries around the world are gathering on the Expo platform to communicate, pursue prosperity and development, and build a community of human destiny and a happy family together. The China Pavilion is like a bright light on the "Belt and Road", shining a bright light on the future full of opportunities. The China Pavilion will focus on "Exploration and Discovery", "Communication and Connection", "Innovation and Cooperation" and "Opportunities and Future". The pavilion will focus on four parts, including "Innovation Creates Opportunities, Opportunities Build the Future, and Future Common Development", to showcase China's development achievements in the fields of science and technology and information and communication, and to promote the "Belt and Road" initiative and the idea of building a community of human destiny. The next step will focus on deepening the design, construction, planning and promotion of the exhibition.

Feng Yaoxiang also introduced the three major highlights of China's participation in the Dubai Expo：

First, the theme is innovative. The China Pavilion takes "Building a Community of Human Destiny - Innovation and Opportunity" as the theme of the exhibition, closely following the key word "innovation" to promote China's insistence on promoting scientific and technological innovation and institutional mechanisms. The pavilion will be a two-wheel drive to promote common development, implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and build a community of human destiny.

Second, architectural innovation. The architecture of the China Pavilion skillfully combines traditional Chinese elements with modern architectural concepts and modern technical means, fully reflecting the spirit of China and the characteristics of the times, demonstrating Chinese cultural self-confidence, and telling the Chinese story in an international context. The exterior of the China Pavilion uses technological and environmentally friendly building materials, and expresses traditional Chinese culture with modern technical methods. Through innovative multimedia technology, the light show created by the China Pavilion at night will be a beautiful scenery of the Expo site.

Third, to showcase innovation. The China Pavilion will highlight China's innovative technological achievements in the fields of information, science and technology, transportation, etc., with novel display techniques and high technological content. The "eye of the sky" FAST, Beidou satellite, 5G technology, artificial intelligence and other core exhibits will be displayed for the first time in the China Pavilion at the Expo, and high-speed rail simulation driving, intelligent network-connected cars, etc. will also make a wonderful appearance, through innovative forms of interpretation of "intelligent travel".

It is reported that the Expo is mainly divided into two kinds of registered category Expo and recognized category Expo. The Dubai Expo is a five-year registered category, the same level as the 2010 Shanghai Expo, which will be held in Dubai, UAE from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021. The theme of this year's Expo is "Connecting Ideas, Creating the Future" and the three sub-themes are "Opportunities", "Mobility" and "Sustainability "The Expo aims to unite the international community and promote global cooperation to create a better future. Dubai Expo is also the first Expo to be held in the Middle East, covering an area of 438 hectares and is expected to receive 25 million visitors, with more than 190 countries having confirmed their participation so far.
